Who is Mariposa?

What Do We Do?

Mariposa’s ethos is inclusion, representation and creative learning through play. Our core attributes are fun, quality class content, honesty, compassion, kindness and care.

We offer engaging, empowering drama sessions which equip children to develop creativity and confidence.

Our classes are delivered both online (live and interactively) and face to face where government COVID-19 compliance is strictly adhered to.

Our classes and workshops are designed for children in age specific groups (ages 2-18 yrs) and we aim to develop performance skills and inspire creativity. Each class and session is crafted to:

  • Ignite imaginations

  • Explore emotions

  • Practice performance skills

  • Build confidence

  • Learn through play

As a Community Interest Company, we operate predominantly as an after-school facility offering extracurricular activities. We also work closely with home educating communities to offer learning to complement different curriculums. We offer both bespoke and core themed sessions. We welcome partnerships, particularly in support of charitable work by raising awareness and/or fundraising.

Mariposa means butterfly. As ambassadors for positive change, we believe that every effort to make a difference – even a gentle flutter – is important. We value all things artistic and empower our students to use their skills to make a difference by BEING the difference.

As we connect with our community, step by step we’re making a difference one session at a time.

Who delivers our classes?

As Creative Director of Mariposa Performing Arts, Ellen-Gayle Harewood designs and delivers the majority of Mariposa’s classes and sessions.  Occasionally, Mariposa collaborates with other professional, experienced practitioners - carefully selected for shared ethos and aligned values.

Ellen-Gayle is passionate about creativity, performing arts and cares deeply about the learning experience of her students. Having performed professionally as an actor since 14yrs of age, she completed her actor training at The Academy Drama School, London (2004-06). Ellen-Gayle has worked steadily as an actor since then, completing several international tours.

As well as working within the UK for the last 20+yrs, she has led drama workshops in South Africa, Uganda and the UAE. With extensive, international experience working with children and young people, “Miss Ellen” remains connected with many of her students, thrilled to keep supporting their creative journey.

She is DBS certified and continuous personal development is deeply embedded within Ellen-Gayle’s career – be that within her craft and/or beyond.
